Portuguese Language and Culture

Our students are encouraged to enrich and diversify their studies through additional language and culture courses. These are offered as additional course options to be combined with the existing major and minor programs.

Portuguese is spoken by approximately 240 million people in Portugal, Brazil, and in parts of Africa and Asia. Portuguese is the third most spoken European language in the world, the first most spoken in South America, and the third most used on the internet – definitely a language of international communication in expansion. Our courses in the language and cultures of the Portuguese-speaking countries, together with a program of conferences, exhibitions, and cinema organized in cooperation with the embassies of Angola, Brazil, and Portugal and the Portuguese Club, provide the tools to discover the diverse and rich Portuguese-speaking world in a dynamic and interactive way.
