Guest Speaker: Mongiwekhaya

[This is an open meeting, all guests and interested parties are welcome]

On March 3, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mongiwekhaya will be a special guest in the class THE 5120/LCM 5130 Performing Nationalism. We will discuss his work with Handspring Puppet Company (Ubu and the Truth Commission) and his writing career for theater, with the special focus on the play I SEE YOU(2016).


Mongiwekhaya, a writer, performer and director from South Africa (Instagram @the_afromystic). Mongiwekhaya has performed in works by Andrew Buckland, Fortune Cookie Theatre company, Market Theater, WellWorn Theater company, and Cirque Du Soleil. He has worked with Handspring Puppet Company since 2011. He is Artist in Residence for Center for Humanities Research (CHR) at the University of Western Cape and a member of the SA PLAYRIOT group, a South African collective of activist-driven playwrights. His award-winning play, I SEE YOU (2016), was presented at The Market Theatre, Johannesburg, the Royal Court, London and The Fugard Theatre, Cape Town, and is published by Bloomsbury. Currently Mongiiwekhaya teaches Acting at AFDA Film School, and the Lab and is developing new works with the Market Theatre and The Lab for 2021.
